RCMP Recruitment Process: How to Apply and What to Expect

So, if you’re ready to step up, here’s what you need to know about the RCMP application process and how to apply in 2025. 

The RCMP Recruitment Process or RCMP Application Process 

Step 1: Firstly, Are You Eligible? 

Before diving into the RCMP application process, make sure you check these off your list: 

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident (with at least 3 of the past 5 years living in Canada) 
  • 18+ years old 
  • Fluent in English or French 
  • Valid unrestricted Canadian driver’s license 
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) 
  • Meet RCMP vision, hearing, health, and physical fitness standards 
  • Able to carry and use a firearm 
  • Ready to train for 26 weeks in Regina, Saskatchewan 
  • Open to relocating anywhere in Canada 
  • Willing to work shifts, weekends, and holidays 
  • Understand the RCMP’s appearance standards (tattoos, jewelry, etc.)

Step 2: You Start Your RCMP Application Process Online 

To begin the RCMP application process, head over to the GC Jobs site and create an account. Search “police officer” under the Job Title section, then filter by “Jobs open to the public.” 

  • Heads-up: If your RCMP online application is screened out, you’ll need to wait 6 months before reapplying. So, double-check everything! 

Step 3: The RCMP application process requires you to attend an RCMP Career Information Session. 

Once you’re in the system, you’ll be invited to an RCMP Career Presentation. This is your chance to get real answers, connect with recruiters, and learn more about life as an RCMP officer.

Step 4: RCMP Application Process requires you to Complete the Online Entrance Assessment 

After the info session, you’ll receive a link to the RCMP Online Entrance Assessment — not a test you need to study for, but more of a personality and logic assessment. It includes: 

  • Workstyle preferences 
  • Language comprehension 
  • Math and spatial reasoning 
  • Memory 
  • Business decision-making
  • You’ll have 14 days to complete it. It takes about 60 minutes, and we recommend doing it in one sitting. 

Step 5: Submit Your Documents (Only When Asked) 

If you pass the assessment, a recruiting analyst will contact you for the next step — paperwork! You’ll need to upload forms like: 

  • Vision and hearing exams 
  • Security screening application 
  • Personal documents (like ID, transcripts, etc.) 

Everything is uploaded to a secure portal. Do not email or mail your documents unless specifically told to. 

Pro tip: Incomplete or incorrect forms can delay or even close your file — take your time and get it right. 

Step 6: Suitability Interview 

Now comes one of the most important steps in the RCMP recruitment process: the Suitability InterviewanEDGE has an experienced team of RCMP Interview Coaches, who coach this interview 

 The RCMP Interview has two main parts: 

A) Attribute Evaluation Interview

This part tests four core competencies: 

  • Problem-solving 
  • Teamwork 
  • Communication 
  • Self-control under stress 

You’ll be asked behavioural questions like:
“Tell me about a time you overcame a challenge.”
Use the STAR method:
Situation, Task, Action, Result. 

B) Regular Member Applicant Questionnaire (RMAQ)

This digs into your personal history — honestly. The RCMP values integrity above all else. Be upfront. Failing to disclose past issues will almost certainly remove you from the process.

Step 7: The RCMP Recruitment process requires a Psychological and Medical Assessments 

You’ll now undergo a psychological screening and medical exam — both covered by the RCMP. 

  • The psych evaluation checks if you have the mindset for police work. 
  • The medical exam ensures you meet health and fitness standards. 

Just sign the consent forms and complete everything as instructed. No results will be shared with you. 

Step 8: Field Investigation and Background Check 

The final hurdle is field investigation and security clearance. 

The RCMP will dig deep into: 

  • Employment & education history 
  • Financial background 
  • Personal relationships 
  • Criminal record (if any) 
  • Online activity 
  • Drug/alcohol use 
  • Time spent outside Canada 

If you’ve lived abroad for 6+ months, be ready to show proof of what you are up to. 

Step 9: RCMP Depot Awaits 

Once you’ve passed every step of the RCMP recruitment process, you’ll receive your official invitation to attend Depot — the RCMP’s legendary 26-week training academy in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Joining the RCMP isn’t for everyone — and that’s the point. This is one of the most respected law enforcement careers in Canada, and for good reason.
