About the OACP Certificate Assessment
The OACP Certificate is used by participating Ontario police services as part of the constable selection process. The testing process includes Part B, known as the Sigma Survey for Police Officers (SSPO), followed by the Part C personality assessment.
Part B evaluates written communication and practical police problem-solving. Section A assesses spelling, vocabulary, punctuation and grammar. Section B presents policing-related situations that require applicants to identify the most appropriate response. Previous policing knowledge is not required.

OACP Part B Format.
The current Part B assessment uses the Sigma Survey for Police Officers (SSPO). Applicants must complete 74 multiple-choice questions within 35 minutes, making accuracy and efficient pacing important.

Applicants have 35 minutes to complete Part B. This allows approximately 28 seconds per question, so careful time management is essential.
Incident Report Writing Aptitude: 44 Questions
This section assesses spelling, vocabulary, grammar and punctuation skills relevant to clear and credible police reporting.
Police Problem Solving: 30 Questions
This section presents practical police-related situations using written, visual or numerical information. Applicants must interpret the available facts and select the most appropriate response.
Incorrect answers receive a scoring penalty, while unanswered questions are not penalized. The OACP Certificate process also includes the Part C PRF-R for Policing personality assessment. Which sentence is written correctly?
A) The officers report was submitted before the end of shift.
B) The officer’s report was submitted before the end of the shift.
C) The officers’ report were submitted before the end of shift.

Correct Answer: B
Explanation: “Officer’s” requires an apostrophe to show that the report belongs to one officer. The sentence also uses the correct verb form and includes the necessary article before “shift.”
Sample Question 2: Police Problem Solving
During a community event, a member of the public approaches you and says they have repeatedly asked for assistance but have been ignored. What is the most appropriate first response?
A) Explain that everyone is busy and ask the person to wait.
B) Listen calmly, clarify the person’s concern and determine what assistance is required.
C) Immediately direct the person to submit a formal complaint.
D) Tell the person to speak with someone else because you are working at the event.
Correct Answer: B

What is the OACP Certificate assessment?

What is the OACP Part C PRF-R assessment?
Part C is the PRF-R for Policing personality assessment. It contains 307 statements answered using a five-point scale ranging from strongly disagree to strongly agree. There are no correct or incorrect answers, and applicants should respond honestly according to their normal behaviour.
What does the Police Problem Solving section assess?
This section assesses practical judgment, critical thinking and the ability to interpret written, visual and numerical information. Applicants must evaluate policing-related situations and select the response best supported by the available facts.
How long does the OACP assessment take?
The SSPO Part B assessment has a strict 35-minute time limit. The PRF-R itself is not timed and is usually completed in approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Both assessments must be completed during the scheduled proctored session, for which applicants should set aside approximately 90 uninterrupted minutes.
Is there a passing score for the OACP assessment?
The OACP does not publish a universal passing score. Applicants receive an OACP Certificate, but they do not receive their individual Part B or Part C scores or detailed feedback. Participating police services receive the assessment results and determine how they are considered during their selection process.
Are incorrect answers penalized on the OACP Part B assessment?
Yes. Incorrect SSPO answers receive a scoring penalty, while unanswered questions are not penalized. Applicants should manage their time carefully and avoid selecting answers through completely unsupported guessing.
Is the OACP Part B assessment difficult?
The primary challenge is completing 74 questions accurately within 35 minutes. Applicants must work quickly across spelling, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, practical reasoning and basic mathematical questions while accounting for the incorrect-answer penalty.
