The second part of the Toronto Police Interview is the ECI (Essential Competency Interview) portion, which assesses your core competencies and how you apply them in real-life situations.
The interviewer will expertly use the STAR approach to guide the competency interview, providing you with a clear structure and support throughout.
You’ll be asked to describe the Situations and Tasks you encountered, the specific Actions you took, and finally, the Results you achieved.
Part of our interview coaching is developing your core competencies with you from your past life experiences, your job, and your personal life.
The interview will begin with a request to recall a recent situation or event showing a particular competency needed for the role. It’s essential to choose examples from the last 2-3 years, as the interviewer will ask for detailed accounts, and the more recent the example, the easier it will be to recall specifics.
Remember that the interviewer wants to understand your behaviour when selecting a situation. Pick a story where you were directly involved, and focus on what you did,
Your one-on-one coach and mentor will be crucial in preparing for this portion of the interview. They will review the competencies of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) with you, instilling confidence and helping you urstannded and apply them in your responses.
